The 2014 Darwin Festival program is being let out of the proverbial bag today and it is in tip‐top Territory form. This year's Festival program is a living, breathing celebration of what makes Darwin the vibrant, beautiful, funny and curious capital of the Territory – this is 100% Darwin.
In what will be Artistic Director Edwina Lunn's final year at the helm of the Festival, the 2014 program is 80 events over 18 days, traversing theatre, music, comedy, cabaret, dance and visual arts across 37 venues, and Darwin is the star of the show.
Focusing on an overarching theme of -100% Darwin', with a theatre piece of the same name taking the stage at the Amphitheatre across two huge nights on the opening weekend, the 2014 Darwin Festival will charm Top End audiences and light up venues across Darwin, including Brown's Mart Theatre, The Amphitheatre at George's Green (aka George Brown Botanic Gardens), Town Hall Ruins, Bagot Community, Nightcliff Pool, Darwin Waterfront, Happy Yess and of course Festival Park which will this year be the main hub and heart of the Festival, with free nightly music on the Pendopo stage and a late night Festival Club at The Lighthouse on Friday and Saturday nights. The heart of the Territory's arts scene is beating fast and nothing is better evidence of this than this year's Darwin Festival program, a proud illustration of artists creating and exhibiting works born and bred right here.
